The Bear and the Raven

A collection of poems and drawings

It was time, after the physical ordeal of blindness, surgeries, pain, fear, and forced fortitude, to shed my old skin and become the new person I now was. Now molted, I needed to be renamed in order to start anew fully. It needed to have the initials of my old name, KK.

So it came to be Karhu Korppi, meaning bear and raven in the Finnish language. Being 95% Finnish heritage and 5% Norwegian, Swedish Sami culture, I honored the ancient stories from this heritage. These mythical animals spoke to me and strengthened me with a new purpose, and I am honored to have them on my journey to the next chapter forming yet around the next corner.
